(ContentDesk) April 23, 2006 -- Whether paid or not, we are all working women, claims Nancy Jacobs, founder and Executive Director of Atlanta-based Society for the Advancement of Women. We are all dealing with wanting professional success, but also wanting to be the mother we promised ourselves we would be. This is a very strong undercurrent for working women and stay-at-home moms. Womens bodies cannot be in a boardroom and on the playground at the same time and whichever path they choose, there is that hidden wonderment and sometimes sorrow about whether or not they have made the right choice. When my daughter started Kindergarten, I wanted to go back to work and have it all, but could not figure out how to juggle it and do a great job in all aspects of my life.
So, Jacobs began calling executive women asking them how they were managing it all and after months of research, found that no one really felt successful or fulfilled.
Most of the time, women would be in tears after just a few minutes on the phone, says Jacobs, I was expecting to find answers, not problems.
With notebooks full of issues, Jacobs analyzed the problems until she found commonalities and was able to form the Society for the Advancement of Women to specifically address these concerns.
Hearing those tears from so many women I admired was too much for me to let go.
I began a mission to find solutions for us all, and heal the many open wounds I scratched open along the way. The Society for the Advancement of Women officially kicks off with their upcoming event The Evolution of Women .
